Our History

Maynooth Community Church is a new church development project arising out of the ministry of Lucan Presbyterian Church (LPC), which is located in the heart of nearby Lucan village. Since its establishment in 1876, LPC has seen a great deal of development both in itself and in its surrounding area. Over the past decade, in particular, rapid demographic changes have been matched by an equally rapid increase in membership within the Lucan congregation which has now grown to over two hundred families. This has been a wonderful blessing for those in leadership in Lucan but it has also brought significant pressure on the limited physical facilities of the
congregation. At the same time, the leadership in Lucan has recognized that the expanding West of Dublin area will need more local congregations (of various types) if people are to have an adequate opportunity to encounter and understand the message of Jesus.

Given these realities, in 2001 the elders of LPC, in consultation with the wider church, made the decision to initiate a new congregation here in Maynooth. This new congregation, it was hoped, would provide a spiritual home for the members of LPC who lived in Maynooth, and the other surrounding towns and villages, but would also be able to serve the thousands of new people moving into the local area who had little or no previous church connection at all. Maynooth Community Church is the result of that decision.

Working in partnership with our congregation in Lucan, MCC is a church community made up with people from many different backgrounds and spiritual traditions. We are drawn together by our common commitment to follow Jesus Christ, enjoy God’s presence together and share God’s love with others. At the moment, our minister and elders are part of the wider leadership team in LPC. Eventually, we will be constituted as an independent congregation as we continue to respond to God’s wonderful love and amazing grace in His Son, Jesus Christ.
